Connection before correction
Your child is upset because it is time to put the tablet away. You can hold the boundary without turning the moment into a battle.
- Pause first. Take one slow breath and lower your voice before you respond.
- Connect. “You were having fun. Stopping feels frustrating.” Acknowledging a feeling does not mean changing the rule.
- Guide. “Screen time is finished. Would you like to put the tablet away, or shall we do it together?”
Try it: which response builds connection while keeping the boundary?
